How to Deal With Calibration Failure

Download

This guide provides a step-by-step checklist to resolve calibration failures on DWARF II. Follow these tips to ensure successful calibration.

1. Common Causes of Calibration Failure

  1. Using Filters:

    • Do not use any filters during calibration or when performing GoTo. Attach the UHC filter only before pressing the shoot button.
  2. Lack of Well-Focused Stars:

    • Ensure there are well-focused stars visible in the sky.
    • Refer to: "DWARF 2 User Manual" for focus tips.
  3. Obstructions in the Environment:

    • Perform calibration in an open space without obstacles like buildings, trees, or clouds.
    • clear sky is essential for capturing stars.
  4. Mount Position Limits:

    • If DWARF II reaches its movement limit during calibration, manually rotate the mount, recalibrate, and try GoTo again.
  5. SD Card Storage:

    • Ensure there is enough free space on the SD card, as full storage can disrupt calibration.

2. Calibration Process Overview

  • During calibration:

    1. The scope moves to its start position (lens tilts slightly upward).
    2. It returns to the position where the calibration command was initiated.
    3. The bottom axis rotates 5 degrees left, then 5 degrees right.
    4. If it doesn’t capture stars after 3 rotations, it rotates 20 degrees to search for stars.
  • Space Requirements:

    • Tilt the scope 45-80 degrees vertically.
    • Ensure at least 10 degrees of horizontal clearance on both sides.

3. GPS Issues

  • If GPS Fails to Obtain Location:

    1. Verify GPS permissions are enabled for the DWARFLAB app:
      • Search "Location" or "GPS" in your device settings and allow DWARFLAB to access location.
    2. If GPS still fails (e.g., in remote areas with no Internet):
      • Manually input longitude and latitude in the DWARFLAB app:
        • Go to Settings > Location in the app.
  • Refer to: "DWARF 2 User Manual-DWARFLAB helpcenter" for more details.

4. Additional Notes

  • Clear Sky Requirement:

    • Calibration requires a clear view of the sky. If the calibration fails repeatedly, ensure there are no obstructions or clouds.
  • Restart Calibration:

    • If the above steps don’t work, restart DWARF II, adjust its position, and try again.
  • Contact support@dwarflab.com if you can't figure out the problem.
